An Envato affiliate store is one of the simplest online businesses you can run with WordPress. You list themes, plugins and other digital items from ThemeForest and CodeCanyon in your own WooCommerce shop, visitors click Buy, and they complete the purchase on Envato Market through your affiliate link. You earn a commission without handling files, payments, refunds or support.
This guide walks you through the whole setup — from an empty WordPress install to a store that keeps itself up to date.
What you need before you start
- A WordPress site with WooCommerce. Any modern host is fine; you do not need a payment gateway because no one pays on your site.
- An Envato affiliate account. The Envato Market affiliate program runs on Impact. Apply to the Envato Market program there and wait for approval — our guide Envato Affiliate Program via Impact explains each step.
- An Envato API personal token. Create it for free at build.envato.com with the permission “View and search Envato sites”. This is what lets your store read item names, prices, ratings and images.
- A niche. “Everything on ThemeForest” is too broad to rank. “Elementor templates for restaurants” or “WooCommerce plugins for subscriptions” is a niche you can own.
Step 1 — Choose your niche and structure
Pick a topic where people search for solutions before they buy: WordPress themes for a profession, plugins for a specific WooCommerce problem, Shopify themes, admin templates. Then plan three to six categories. A good structure helps visitors and gives every category page a chance to rank on its own.
Step 2 — Set WooCommerce up for affiliate products
WooCommerce has a built-in product type called External/Affiliate product. Instead of an “Add to cart” button it shows a button that links to an external URL. That is exactly what an affiliate store needs. A few settings are worth changing:
- Set the store currency. Envato prices are in USD; if your store uses another currency, you need a conversion rate.
- Hide or remove the cart and checkout pages from the menu — nobody uses them.
- Add an affiliate disclosure page and link it in the footer. It is required by most affiliate programs and by law in many countries.

Step 3 — Import products
You can add affiliate products by hand: copy the name, price, image and description, then paste your affiliate link. For ten items that is fine. For a real store with hundreds of items whose prices and ratings change every week, you need an importer.
Romelius Affiliate Importer connects to the Envato API and imports items as WooCommerce external products in one click. You search any marketplace, filter by category, rating, sales and price, select the items you want and import them as drafts or published products. The affiliate link is added automatically.
If you start from zero, the Site wizard builds a complete niche store for you: the best items, categories, a home page, a “Trending now” page, the disclosure page, a “Top 10” article, comparison articles and the menu.
Step 4 — Keep prices and data fresh
Envato authors change prices, run sales, release updates and sometimes remove items. A store with wrong prices loses trust — and wastes clicks. Smart Sync in Romelius Affiliate Importer refreshes prices, sales, ratings and images in the background. Popular products are checked more often, and items removed from the marketplace are marked unavailable instead of deleted, so you never get broken pages.
Step 5 — Write content that brings visitors
Product pages alone rarely rank. The traffic comes from content around them:
- “Best X for Y” lists — “Best WordPress themes for photographers”.
- Comparisons — “Avada vs The7”: people searching for this are close to buying.
- Guides and tutorials that solve a problem and recommend the right item.
- Unique product descriptions. Copying the author’s text word for word gives Google no reason to rank your page. Rewrite it, add your opinion, pros and limitations.
The AI features of Romelius Affiliate Importer can draft descriptions, mini-reviews and SEO meta for you with your own OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, Mistral, DeepSeek or Grok key. Always read and improve what the AI writes before you publish it.
Step 6 — Promote what actually sells
Do not guess. Look at real numbers: sales in the last weeks, ratings, how recently the item was updated. The Profit Score and “What to do today” dashboard in Romelius Affiliate Importer show which items deserve a place on your home page and in your newsletter.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Importing thousands of items with no content — thin pages rarely rank.
- Forgetting the affiliate disclosure.
- Letting prices go stale for months.
- Promoting items that have not been updated in years — buyers notice, and refunds cost you the commission.
